Both brothers created three planes, but the best one was one where it went 852 feet in 59 seconds. Today we use planes to travel around the world all thanks to Americans Wilbur and Orville Wright.

One day Percy found a candy bar melting in his pocket and then he thought to himself how can I heat things up faster? Today we use microwaves to warm food everywhere and it is a big part of our daily lives.

He was traveling on a ship to Europe and he heard people talking about electromagnetism and that’s what inspired him to get the idea of the electric telegraph. He created the Morse code. November 18, 2024 - November 22, 2024: Robert Fulton invented the first successful steamboat. Robert went to the London society and he left it for a career of shipbuilding. Robert was particularly inspired by the steam engine and he thought it could be used to power boats. Steamboats still exist today.
November 25, 2024 - November 29, 2024: American Garrot Morgan invented the traffic light in 1923. Morgan's experiences of driving through Cleveland gave him the idea to create the first 3 position traffic signal. Today we use traffic lights all over the world to keep the flow of traffic.
December 2, 2024 - December 6, 2024: Nikola Tesla pioneered the transmission of alternating current energy. Nikola was an immigrant from Serbia. Tesla's mother inspired Nikola to invent small household appliances. As Nikola grew up he invented more important inventions like alternating current electricity.

Working on his family's farm Philo looked at the water flowing in the soil which gave him the idea to transmit light in parallel lines which would be the main technology behind the television . December 16, 2024 - December 20, 2024: American Charles Goodyear invented the process of converting natural rubber to a stronger form. He discovered how to make a stronger form of rubber from a little bit of luck. Charles accidentally dropped some India rubber mixed with sulfur on a hot stove and he discovered how to make stronger rubber. Today we use rubber to make gloves, tires and erasers.
January 6, 2024 - January 10, 2024: American inventor Eli Whitney invented the cotton gin in 1793. While Whitney was living on a plantation he realized how difficult it was to pick and clean cotton by hand. He took the problem as a challenge and created the cotton gin. Today we use cotton to make clothes, towels and fishing nets.
January 13, 2024 - January 17, 2024: American Cyrus McCormick invented the mechanical reaper in 1834. The mechanical reaper is a cutting blade to bring grain within its reach. McCormick's father tried to make something like the mechanical reaper but he never succeeded. Thousands of farmers all over the world use reapers to help them farm.
January 20, 2024 - January 24, 2024: American inventor John Deere invented the self scouring steel plow in 1837. When soil stuck to the bottom of plows farmers had to constantly scrape off the dirt. Deere used broken steel saw blades to create the plow. Today we use plows all over the world to help with farming and so much more.

Gates was inspired by the front page of the popular electronics magazine so he developed Microsoft, a software for the Altair 8800, an early computer. Today Microsoft has a key role in the computer industry as a software company.
January 20, 2024 - January 24, 2024: James Naismith invented Basketball in 1891. Naismith wanted to make a game skill accuracy and he was inspired by a game he played as a child called duck on a rock. Today basketball is one of the most popular sports in the world.

While Willis was in Buffalo he experienced air quality problems and he submitted a few drawings of what would become the first modern air conditioner. Today we use air conditioners to cool our home on a hot day.

George saw how difficult existing photographic equipment was because they were difficult to carry, wear or handle so he invented the first kodak camera. Today we use cameras all over the world to capture pictures and videos.
February 17 - February 21, 2024: American Frederick McKinley Jones invented the first successful system for mobile refrigeration. During world war ll Jones saw the difficulties of supplying fresh food to troops so he invented the mobile refrigerator. Today we use refrigerators to cool and preserve food.
February 24 - February 28, 2024: The United States was the first country to land astronauts on the moon. During the Cold War the United States and Russia were fighting to be the most powerful country in the world. The space race was a critical arena. Russia launched the first satellite. This meant the United States had to be much more intense about getting astronauts to the moon. In 1969 Americans Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were the first two people in the world to go on the moon. The United States was the first country to land people on the moon beating Russia in the space race.
March 3 - March 7, 2024: American inventor Jonas Salk invented the first vaccine in 1955. Salk wanted to eliminate the paralytic poliomyelitis, a horrible disease, so he invented the first vaccine. Today we use vaccines all over the world to protect us from diseases.
March 10 - March 14, 2024: American Elisha Otis invented the modern elevator in 1853. Otis wanted to build something that would lift heavy materials up and down so he invented the elevator. Today we use elevators to move people and cargo between floors of buildings and houses.
March 17 - March 21, 2024: American Walt Disney invented Disney in 1923. Walt spent so much time on his farm in Missouri that he developed a love for storytelling and drawing. Disney loved animation with motion pictures so he pursued a career in the arts of it, eventually he created Disney and made movies like Steamboat Willie, which had synchronized sounds in it. Today Disney makes some of the most entertaining and fun movies.
March 24 - March 28, 2024: American inventor Elias Howe invented the sewing machine in 1846. Elias’s family was pinched by poverty and his wife had to sew things by hand for others. Howe watched his wife sew and he saw many ways to mechanize the process so he invented the sewing machine. Today we use sewing machines all over the world to make furniture and clothes.
March 31 - April 4, 2024: Did you know that Hollywood was the birthplace for modern filmmaking and it has developed many moviemaking techniques over the years that are used around the world? For example Hollywood has added special effects to movies such as Star Wars. Hollywood filmed the first Star Wars movie in 1977 and created groundbreaking effects. Today Hollywood is home to major film studios like Disney, Universal and Paramount and they have created some of the greatest movies.
April 7 - April 11, 2024: Silicon Valley is a global epicenter for technology and innovation. Stanford University played a key role in creating Silicon valley. Professor Fredrick Terman encouraged his students to start their own companies that had a close relationship between the university and the emerging tech. Today Silicon Valley is now home to some of the biggest tech companies in the world like Apple, Google, Meta and Nvidia.
April 14 - April 18, 2024: The United States is one of the only countries in the world that has a diverse climate. It can go from the cold arctic conditions in Alaska to the sun drenched beaches in Hawaii and Florida. The United States also has the vast rocky mountains in Colorado to the dry desert in Arizona.
April 21 - April 25, 2024: Did you know the internet was developed in the United States? The US Department of Defense, which is in charge of protecting our nation, funds and helps build new technology through its agency called DARPA. In the 1960s, DARPA built the networking technology that laid the foundation for the internet!

The US feared that Nazi Germany was building a similar weapon, and from 1942-1945, some of the best scientists came together to work on the Manhattan project, and successfully developed the atomic bomb which helped end World War 2.

DARPA, the government agency that also helped invent the internet, also developed technology for computer operating systems.
